Daily Devotional 3rd Sunday of Advent Sunday, December 14th, 2014 Read Luke 18:15-17 God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world that we might live through him. - 1 John 4:9 (NRSV) As jubilation for the Christmas season increases, I am reminiscing about my early years at school. We sang about the sweet story of old, when Jesus lived here among us and loved little children, calling them lambs of his fold. Singing those hymns often brought me close to him. And now I feel mesmerized all over again as I recall my desire to have Jesus’ hands placed on my head in blessing and his arms around my shoulders in loving embrace. Even now Jesus is mine. The more I acknowledge his companionship with me, the more fellowship I have with him every day. He is my friend. Therefore, despite the turmoil and turbulence in the world, I remember that Christmas, celebrating the birth of Christ, is meant to be the sweetest, brightest, and most joyous season because God showered love on earth. I pause and pray, welcoming Christ once again. The Author Zaina Renner (Western Province, Sierra Leone) Thought for the Day Jesus Christ is: “love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down” (Charles Wesley, 1747). Prayer Thank you, God, for your great love in giving your son Jesus to be born among us. Amen. Prayer focus: For the world to know God’s boundless love The Daily Reflections from Upper Room Ministries invite you to spend some time with God in reading, prayer, and meditation.
