Joshua 5:14 NKJ Martin Luther wrote, I know whenever I have prayed earnestly that I have been amply heard, and have obtained more than I prayed for. God indeed sometimes delayed, but at last He came. Joshua certainly learned that. He knew that the only way to conquer the Promised Land was for Jericho to fall first. Well, conveniently for Joshua, the angelic commander of the Lords army showed up, then God gave him a very clear battle plan to take down Jericho. Weird plan, but it worked. (Gods totally cool like that... His weird plans actually work when we follow them.) You see, the battle was Gods. That doesnt mean Joshua sat on his rear and waited for God to make the walls of Jericho vanish in a cloud of smoke. It meant that, after he sought God in prayer, Joshua was given the means to win his battle. Whatever Jericho is in your life today, whatever walls you need to break down, your battle belongs to the Lord too. Joshua was strong and courageous and yet even he could not defeat Jericho in his own strength. His victory came in the bending of knees. The fiercest of conflict is won in prayer.
