Daily Devotionals by Peter Kennedy: Devotional - Leaving All Posted by Peter Kennedy on Sunday Nov 30, 2014 under Devotions In Mark “At once they left their nets and followed him.” – Mark 1:18 On the 8th of December 1934, John and Betty Stam, both in their 20s, were led out of a small Chinese town bound together. The missionary couple from the United States had been in China for less than three years. The communists took them to a small hill known as Eagle Hill, where John and Betty were executed. News of the deaths of John and Betty, as it traveled around the world, challenged hundreds of young people to commit their lives to foreign missions. When John was graduating from Moody Bible Institute in 1932, he was chosen by his class to give a speech and said the following: “Shall we beat a retreat and turn back from our high calling in Christ Jesus or dare we advance at Gods command in the face of the impossible? Let us remind ourselves that the Great Commission was never qualified by clauses calling for advance only if funds were plentiful and no hardship or self-denial was involved. On the contrary, we are told to expect tribulation and even persecution, but with it victory in Christ.” When the Lord calls us, we need to show up for duty and follow Him. Today in prayer, thank the Lord for all He is doing in your life and be faithful in the calling He has given to you. Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and, if true, of infinite importance. The one thing it cannot be is moderately important. - C. S. Lewis God’s Word: “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.” – Matthew 19:29 By Peter Kennedy, Copyright 2014, Devotional E-Mail DEVOTIONS IN MARK
