Daily Dose of Hope: January 21st, 2015: I find hope in the growing recognition of the integrity and value to our riparian zones and waterways, brimming with energy and possibility. In particular, recent recognition from the U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Park Service to establish two new additions to the National Water Trails System. In Louisiana and Michigan, hundreds of miles of waterways flowing through working landscapes, farmlands, and even intact ecosystems will be further proof that we are slowly cultivating a water ethic as much as a land ethic. Much room for honing our ethics remains, but we have grown leaps and bounds since the Clean Water Act, let alone since the 1916 establishment of the National Park Service. Not only can I not wait to take out my paddles and kayak on some of this National Water Trails System. I have hope that my children and future generations will be able to savor more of their public lands ad public waters experiences alike.
