Daily Encounter: August 9th 2014 The Prayer of Intercession “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none.” - Ezekiel 22:30 Today’s Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-3 Yesterday, we looked at Personal Prayer. Today, we shall focus on another type of prayer known as Intercession. Intercession is the action of pleading on somebody’s behalf. It is standing in the gap for another. Because we live in a fallen world where all kinds of evil prevail, there are so many things and people calling on us to pray. In intercessory prayer, you leave your issue behind and focus on other people. Most of the time, the people we intercede for may not be in a position to pray for themselves like we do. You can pray for an unsaved family member, a friend, colleague or even somebody you just met, who needs to be saved. You can also pray for a family member or friend who may be going through a troubling situation. You can pray concerning the ills going on in your community, city or your country. The insurgence we are experiencing in Nigeria and other problems are examples of what to pray for. You can even go further by looking at other issues in the world that is plaguing people; natural disasters, wars, terrorism, etc. Basically, in intercession, you are bringing before God everyone and everything that need His intervention. Whoever takes it upon him or herself to intercede for others is a far more mature Christian than the one that spends all his life talking to God concerning his own matter. When you pray to God about others, God is sure to perfect all that concerns you.
