Daily Horror Overdose #9 Ive been waiting for the appropriate placement and timing to add this one. I have an idea of what songs I want on the Horror Overdose, but with exception to a slim few, There is no particular rhyme or reason to what goes where. I go by what feels right at that very moment. Today I was thinking I wanted to do something in the vein of The Monster Mash, without actually choosing The Monster Mash. (Monster Mash will not be on my list, for the record. Its a bit too obvious for my tastes). Just when I chose a song that would be fitting lateral move to The Mash, This one grabbed my by its leafy roots. Upon watching the clip for review, It made me realize 3 things: 1) I miss Rick Moranis 2) I miss Levi Stubbs, R.I.P. 3) I absolutely with all my heart, soul, and being, miss Jim Henson. R.I.P. Jim Henson, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg fueled my, and just about every child of the early 80s imagination, and willingness to believe and accept any thing we see on the screen really does walk, talk, and breathe. And on a side note, modern day special effects are vastly overrated! Take one look at this clip between Seymour and Audrey II, and tell me you dont believe. Its puppetry at its finest, and less than a decade before CGI became the golden rule of Hollywood. Little Shop of Horrors is a dark film with a very morbid subject matter, but the wizardry and creativity that went into it hardly make you notice. You root for Seymour. You root for the plant. Then, you root for Seymour against the Plant. It wasnt until many years later that I saw how twisted the idea of feeding your enemies to a talking plant was, haha! I saw it for the first time when I was 11 when I was sick for the entire week of February vacation. L.S.O.H., and The Three Amigos were on steady rotation with the HBO/Cinemax package we had back then. Spending my vacation with those two films while sick in bed and trying to get healthy were a great remedy. If anyone is wondering why Little Shop of Horrors is #9 on the list, the Plant made me do it! FEED ME!!! youtu.be/5ea5jKFGgUw
