Daily Lectionary Devotion Mark 14:32-52 April 7, 2014 Sleepy Servants / Running Scared Ok so I’m a little behind the last few days. Sorry I missed Saturday and Sunday. Jesus takes the big three with him and goes to pray. Peter, James and John just can’t seem to stay awake. It’s like members falling asleep during one of my sermons. Everyone should get a chance to stand with the pastor in the pulpit and see what the pastor sees. It may be life changing for you but maybe not. Anyway, Jesus is praying as he is about to be arrested and go to the trial and cross. He’s in anguish and the three are sleepy! Let’s not blame them. They don’t know what is about to happen. I’m sure they felt guilty afterward. Then to make it even worse after he is arrested, they all scattered. So they can’t stay awake and pray and they run in fear. I find that I am no different. I often fall asleep the minute I start praying and often I run for my life from life’s fears and troubles. Thankfully Jesus kept the watch. Thankfully Jesus stood his ground and faced his accusers. Thankfully Jesus went to the cross. For all of us, sleepy and fearful servants!
