Daily Lent Reflection for April 11: Father, Forgive Them Read Matthew 27:38-44 What was Jesus feeling as the people hurled their insults? Did He want to argue with them? Did He wish to hurl insults back? Did He find Himself angry and ready to call down fire from heaven to destroy them? Jesus had taught His disciples, “Blessed are you when people revile you...and utter all kinds of evil against you.” (Matthew 5:11) He had told them, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:44-45) When we are insulted and harassed by others, we can turn to Jesus, who knows the pain that words can bring. Yet, hanging from the cross, He prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34) How do you feel when others insult or wound you with their words? How do you respond? Are you certain you are forgiven for the times you have wounded others with your words? Are you able to forgive those who wound you?
