Daily Light May 31, 2014 II Corinthians 1:24 What is the role of the pastor in the Church? Is he the boss? Is he simply an ordinary staff member? Is he an employee to be bossed by the deacons? Paul says here one thing that he is not and that is he is not a dictator. Paul statement reads this way: “Not that we have dominion over your faith…” Paul agrees in this matter with Peter, who said in I Peter 5:2-3, “Feed the flock of God which is among you taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for monetary gain, but of a ready mind; neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock.” Instead, the pastor is to be a helper to the Church. Paul specifically says this way, “We are helpers of your joy.” The pastor is to lead the Church by love and to teach them the Word of God so that they will find joy in serving Jesus.
