Daily Manna: God’s Free Gift TEXT: ROMANS 5:12-21 Key Verse : “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life” (Romans 5:18). A young boy visited one of his university professors who knew his father many years ago during their school days. By merely seeing the boy, the professor said,“You are a carbon copy of your father”. This illustrates the biological relationship that exists between parents and their children. What happens in the physical is also applicable in the spiritual because the tree is known by the fruits. Our text today is a contrast between the old life of sin and the new life of righteousness which is obtained by grace through the knowledge of Christ. Paul the apostle traced the origin of the sinful nature to the fall of Adam. As descendants of Adam, the tendency to rebel, disobey and kick against the will of God is a natural disposition. We inherit the guilt and condemnation of the first Adam but the second Adam offers eternal life by grace to enable us escape the pending judgment of God.The old life of sin leads to defeat and failure. Crossing over to a new life, free from vices requires the grace of God. A new creature in Christ is birthed through the grace of God. This requires a conscious and deliberate effort from the recipient. There must be a heart set against all past sins, confessing and turning away from them and accepting Christ as Lord and Saviour. All objects of sin and anything connected with the past must be broken and destroyed. Until you take these basics steps, the old life will surely continue to plague you.But once you take the right step Christ becomes the Captain of your soul, you become totally free.
