Daily Manna: The Storm Will Cease Monday 12, August 2013 TEXT: JOB 7:1-11 KEY VERSE: “As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his work: So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me... and I am not” (Job 7:2,3,8). Lewis Thomas, American scientist, once noted, “We are, perhaps uniquely among the earth’s creatures, the worrying animal. We worry away our lives, fearing the future, discontent with the present, unable to take in the idea of dying, unable to sit still.” Job, in our text today, was faced with some form of affliction which brought severe pain to him. His situation was quite terrible that he despaired of life. His grief showed in his utterances like “months of vanity”; “wearisome nights”; “skin broken… and loathsome”; “my days are spent without hope”; “the eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more.” Similarly today, many people who find themselves in undesirable situations are worried and losing hope as if the Lord is no longer on the throne. Sinners have cause to worry as God is angry with them every day (Psalm 7:11). Though afflictions, persecution, denials, troubles, deprivations and a host of other inconveniences may come the way of believers, God wants us to consider such as trial of faith, which, if we remain faithful, will soon or eventually peter out. The promise of God to His children is, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). So, whatever storm we are passing through now is just for a moment; storms don’t last forever. Therefore, we should not be sorrowful like those who have no hope. A song writer asks: “Will your anchor hold in the storms of life; when the clouds unfold their wings of strife; when the strong tides lift and the cables strain?” Do not forget that Christ is the solid Rock on which the anchor holds. Soon, every threatening storm will cease. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: At the end of the tunnel, there will be light.
