Daily News Of Tripura: CM urges for speedy completion of work for Central Jail:- Agartala, Sep 1, 2013 : Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Saturday issued strict instruction to complete all works for the upcoming Central Jail at Bishalgarh by September 15. Minister for Prison Manindra Reang, Chief Secretary SK Panda, Additional Chief Secretary KV Satyanarayan, Principal Secretary LK Gupta, Secretary for Home (Prison) Samarjit Bhowmik and others were present at the meeting. Chief Minister urged all concerned officials to ensure that work related to the new Central Jail is well over by September 15, a highly placed source in the state government said here today. Work for the project started in 2008. The Engineering Projects of India Limited (EPIL) has been implementing the hi-tech project. An estimated project cost of Rs. 57 crore 34 lakh has been incurred for the work till now. It has been erected on a sprawling 32.62 acre land in Ghaniamara mouja in Bishalgarh block. Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat later this evening, Prison Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik said that nearly 95 percent of the work has already been completed. The rest of the work is more of peripheral services and not core facilities. An upcoming visit at the project site by Chief Secretary SK Panda and Secretary for Prisons Samarjit Bhowmik is scheduled on September 15. We are hopeful of finally viewing our situation once the visit is done, Bhowmik said on Friday evening. A highly placed source in the state administration said that the government is considering October 02 as tentative date for official inauguration of the new Central Jail. The existing Central Jail became operational in 1874 by the then monarch of Tripura. The new Central Jail is scheduled to have facilities to house 975 inmates including 6 male wards with capacity to house 150 inmates each, one VIP ward with capacity to house 25 persons, a condemned cell with capacity for 25 and a female ward with capacity of housing 25 female inmates.
