Daily Practice and Discussion Meetings For SGI members, the ultimate purpose of our Buddhist practice and involvement in Soka Gakkai activities is to allow us to reveal the creative potential in our lives, not only for our personal fulfilment, but also for the development of a peaceful and harmonious society. SGI members perform a morning and evening practice known as gongyo, which consists of chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and reciting portions of the Lotus Sutra. The duration of any particular chanting session is up to each individual. This regular morning and evening ritual is the basis of daily practice, a time when one can reflect on priorities in life and connect with the deeper rhythms of life.
