Daily Prayer 9.6.13 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Rescue me from my enemies, O LORD, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. – Psalm 143:8-10 “Lord, I want to surrender to Your voice, cleave to Your way, and praise You I humility today. Amen.” This summer I spent some time camping in solitude at Canyon de Chelly in northern Arizona. The campground was very primitive, so solitude was coupled with simplicity of living that left ample time and brain-space for meeting God, which became the reason for my days. Each morning I was greeted by the kiss of God in the sunrise, like Adam I enjoyed His company over breakfast. I delighted in His word as I prayed the Psalms which seemed written just for me. I reveled in the perfect stillness of the air and the soft earth under my feet as I hiked down to the edge of the Canyon, and once there I walked on the broad, flat rock way that paved the rim, a path that was stable and unerring beneath me. It was easy to know which way to go. On my left was brush, wilderness, and a chance of getting lost. On my right was the Canyon, stunningly beautiful, but dangerous. Sheer drops of hundreds of feet meant that death would be the price of a misstep. So it dawned on me quickly that I ought not test the Canyon, nor trifle with the wilderness. Instead I cleaved to the Canyon, keeping to the broad, solid rock, the way between lost-ness and death. This, I knew, was where I was meant to stay. There God met me, and there we spoke together of the enemies within that sought to prevent me from fully surrendering to His will and enjoying the fruits of authentic living, His life for me, the Kingdom way. The Spirit led me on that level ground around the Canyon and taught me that only in surrender would I seek God and trust Him, only in obedience would I cleave to His way, and that only in weakness would I find the wisdom and strength to do either. Surrender, obedience and weakness became, on the Canyon, signposts of the Kingdom way. Good morning, all! Please remember these folks in your prayers: One of our Youth continues to need prayer for clarity, truth and recovery. Praising God that Rita is recovering nicely form her shoulder surgery! Continued prayer for Bradley, recovering from surgery. Paul, as he will now begin chemotherapy. Sal; as she continues her radiation treatments. Lord Jesus, bless me this day as I listen for Your voice. Help me to actively seek You and open up space and time for Your spirit to enter into my heart. Let me see You and hear You all around me today. [silence] Lord, we continue in pray as a family for the friends we have lifted up. Please be with each of those who are struggling today. We pray that they will be enveloped by Your assurance and peace, and find new strength. In Your strong name we pray. Amen.
