Daily Prayer – November 25, 2014 by tommymcdearis God, the divide in America became even deeper last night following the grand jury decision in Ferguson, Missouri. None of us were present for the shooting that occurred weeks ago, but a jury made up of blacks and whites has unanimously decided the evidence does not support an indictment of the police officer in question. The racial composition of the grand jury has offered no solace. Today a community is ablaze with hatred, mistrust, fire and gas, and across the nation there are growing chasms of separation that threaten the unity and perhaps even the future of our country. God, heal our land. Make us united in purpose and fill us with a desire for peace. Thanksgiving is directly ahead. Make us thankful for a nation where freedom is assured and the right to hope is assumed. Likewise, give us wisdom, that we might be willing to see through the eyes and the hearts of others. Help us understand the frustrations that percolate, and remind us that even if we disagree, we need not seethe with bitterness, nor respond with violence. Rather, help us to love one another as You love us, even when we are far less than You might have hoped we would be. In Your Name we pray. Amen. “The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion.” Numbers 14:18 “He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.” Proverbs 17:9 “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.” 1 Thessalonians 5:15
