Daily Searchlight. Sunday, November 2nd, 2014. THE DAMNATION ON FAMOUS, NOBILITY- SEEKING AND PLIABLE LEADERS Text: Jeremiah 28:1,2; 1 Timothy 1:19,20; 1 Corinthians 9:25-27; 15:19; Job 16:3 Meditative Verse: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. - Hebrew 12:1 (KJV). Obviously, the chapter stands in immediate sequence with that which precedes and confirms the conclusion that the name Jehoiakim in Jeremiah 27:1 is simply a transcriber’s mistake. In the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah—The Jews often divided any period into two halves, the beginning and the end. As Zedekiah reigned eleven years, the fourth year would be called the beginning of his reign, especially as during the first three years affairs were in such a disturbed state that he had little power or dignity, being a tributary; but in the fourth year he became strong in power. Prophets went on for the space of four years, signifying the will of the Lord by words and types; when in the fifth month of the fourth year, which was the month of Ab, answering to part of our July and of August. At such a time the prophet Hananiah who appears as the most prominent of the prophet’s adversaries, we know nothing beyond what is here recorded. He was clearly one of the leaders of the party of resistance whom we have seen at work trying to form an alliance with the neighbouring nations in Jeremiah 27, and whose hopes became revived by the accession of Pharaoh Hophra (Apries) to the throne of Egypt in B.C. 595. This is a clear attributes of how many so-called preachers, ministers, evangelists, even believers who are members, revolt at preachers that bring sound doctrine. They do not just stand alone, they summon others to oppose sound doctrine and mock at scriptural character. The mention of Gibeon suggests three thoughts: (1) It was, like Anathoth, within the tribe of Benjamin, about six or seven miles from Jerusalem, and so the antagonism between the true prophet and the false in Jerusalem could have been the revival of older local conflicts. (2) Gibeon, like Anathoth, was refered to as one of the cities of priests (Joshua 21:17), and Hananiah was probably considered, therefore, a priest as well as prophet because he hailed from this city. (3) As still retaining the ancient venerable relics of a worship; it had also once been the sanctuary of Jehovah (1 Chronicles 16:39). Furthermore, at Gibeon, the old tabernacle stood which had been with the children of Israel while in the wilderness—which had been removed from Shiloh when the sacred ark was taken (2 Chronicles 1:3). There Solomon, at the beginning of his reign, offered a significant sacrifice (1 Kings 3:4). Ought not any prophet who had grown up in the midst of such an eviroment to have learnt that no place, however sacred, could count on being safe from the changes and chances of time, all fulfilling the righteous purposes of God? These showcases that many Christians reconvene sin secretly into the presence of God, posing their ability and biological spiritual upbring, thereby even deceiving people with it! The occasion on which he now appears was probably at one of the new moon, Sabbath, or other feast-days, sandwich the courts of the Temple is usually crowded. He promises temporal mercies, in Gods name, but makes no mention of the spiritual mercies which God always promised with earthly blessings. This was not the first time Jeremiah had prayed for the people, though he prophesied against them. If you are a true minister of God, dont legitimately be debased by their mockery. At your first publishing of Gods word, they may jeer you; but do not give up. Jeremiah appeals to the event, to prove Hananiahs falsehood. The prophet who spake only of peace and prosperity, without adding that they must by wilfully stop sin, as it will hinder Gods favours- thus, a clarity to proved a false prophethood. Those who do not declare the alarming as well as the encouraging parts of Gods word, and call men to repentance, and faith, and holiness, tread in the steps of the false prophets. However, the godly and ungodly are often in the same family (Eze 18:14-20). Many false prophet grow among us; fellowship with us, feast when we celebrate; they preach and are recommended; but in their nooks and cranny, they are wolves. They are found dressing like Jezebel, gambling, unmerciful, proud, haters of truth and sound doctrine, drunker, fornicators, etc. The gospel of Christ encourages men to do works meet for repentance, and at the same time, gives no encouragement to continue in sin. Prayers: That I may retain my place with You in all I do rather than with men; Lord I vacate and resign my nobility for heaven bound- sake. Give me grace to always haunt at the right channel of being upright and courageous. Amen. Further Reading: 2 Corinthians 6:1 info@apemfaith All copyrights reserved TEs02112014 Happy Sunday.
