Daily Teaching on The Second Coming of Christ By Paul Lawrence Bortolazzo Question: What events must take place before the Son of Man sends forth His angels (Mat. 24:30-31) to gather His elect before pouring out His wrath upon sinners (v37-39), the Day of the Lord? (2 Thes 2:-1-4, Isa. 13:9-11) The FUTURE worldwide wars, famines, earthquakes, and pestilences (Mat. 24:4-7, Rev. 6:1-6) highlighted in Matthew 24:4-8, our Lord Jesus calls the Beginning of Sorrows. “All these are the beginning of sorrows.” Mat 24:8) The Beginning of Sorrows will begin after the Lamb of God (Jesus) opens the 1st seal on the outside of the heavenly scroll. (Rev. 5:1-5; 6:1-2) The rider of the white horse is coming to conquer. “Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.” (Rev. 6:1-2) The 70th week of Daniel will begin when a seven year covenant between Israel and her surrounding enemies (Ten Horns) is confirmed (brokered) by the Little Horn! (Dan. 9:24-27; 7:20-25) “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week…” (Dan 9:27a) In the middle of the week (7 years) the 4th seal will be opened. (Rev. 6:7-8) Michael has cast Satan down. (Rev. 12:6-12) The enemy can no longer accuse believers in heaven. (Rev. 12:10-11) The Devil is coming down with his wrath; knowing his time to conquer is short. (Rev. 12:12) “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” (Rev. 12:7-12) Satan begins by giving his power over the nations to the two Beasts. (Rev. 6:7-8; 13:3-18) The Beast and his False Prophet are given the power to kill 1/4 of the world. (Rev. 6:7-8) “The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority… So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast…And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.” (Rev. 13:2-5) Once Michael the restrainer (Dan. 10:21), the great prince protecting Israel (Dan. 12:1), is taken out of the way (2 Thes 2:7) the great tribulation will begin with the defilement of the holy temple in Jerusalem by the Man of Sin (2 Thes 2:3-4), the abomination that causes desolation! “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand).” (Mat. 24:15, Dan. 9:27) After 3 1/2 years of peace from her surrounding enemies (Dan. 9:27, Mat 24:15), an unsuspecting unprotected Jerusalem (Ezek. 38:14) will be invaded by the Abomination of Desolation (Luke 21:20) and his armies (Rev 17:11-13). According to our Lord, the Great Tribulation of the saints (Rev. 7:14; 13:1-18; 17:11-13) will begin in the middle of the 70th week of Daniel! (Dan. 9:27, Mat 24:15, Luke 21:20) “Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.” (Rev. 12:6) Satan cannot persecute the woman (Rev. 12:1-17) from the 12 tribes of Israel (Rev. 7:1-8, 14:1-4), because she has already fled to the wilderness for protection the entire second half (1260 days) of the 70th week. (Rev. 11:1-3) When the 70th week ends, the fullness of the Gentiles, the 144,000 will become the first fruits spiritually saved by the Messiah. (Rom. 11:25-27, Dan. 9:24, Rev. 10:7; 14:1-4) “When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.” Rev 6:9-11) Once the 5th seal is opened (Rev. 6:9-11), John sees the believers martyred by the Beast (Rev 20:4) in heaven calling out to God to judge those who spilled their blood. They are told to wait until the number of their brethren to be killed was completed. “I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.” (Rev. 6:12-13) After the opening of the 6th seal (Rev 6:12-17), when the sun moon and stars lose their light (Isa. 13:9-11, Joel 2:30-31), the Son of Man will come back in the glory of His Father and send forth His angels (Mat 24:29-31) to gather the great multitude from every nation who got the victory over the Beast (Rev. 7:9-17: 15:2). “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” (Mat. 24:29-31) The horrific persecution of the Great Tribulation (Mat 24:9-26) will be shortened (amputated) (v21-22) sometime in the second half of the seven years (Mat. 24:15), no man knows the exact day or hour of the coming of the Son of Man for His elect! (Mat 24:36-39) “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.” (Mat. 24:21-22) At the end of the 70th week (Acts 1:6-11), the Holy One (Messiah) (Dan. 9:24, Rev 10:1-7), will physically return a second time (Heb. 9:28) for the spiritual (Rom. 11:25-27) and physical salvation (Rev. 14:1-4) of a remnant from Israel. (Zech. 14:1-5) “So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.” (Heb. 9:28) May the Spirit of God bear witness, Prophecy Teacher/Author Paul Lawrence Bortolazzo
