Daily Tip: To really teach a child problem solving skills, you - TopicsExpress

Daily Tip: To really teach a child problem solving skills, you have to give them the time and space to come up with and implement their own solutions. When you suggest A, B, C and D, they don’t have to do any of the real work. They simply choose from the options you’ve given them. (And if their choice fails, turn to you for further instructions.) That fosters dependence, not independence. Real problem solving means kids have to develop a list of possible solutions on their own and then figure out how to put their top choice into motion. Yes, putting them in charge will take longer and there will be more failed attempts along the way, but from that process a real problem solver will be born.
