Daily Walk Devotional, The tribe of Dan expanded beyond their allotted borders, which would eventually result in their drift into idolatry. Excerpt from today’s reading: 40The seventh allotment of land went to the clans of the tribe of Dan. 41The land allocated as their homeland included the following towns: Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-shemesh, 42Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah, 43Elon, Timnah, Ekron, 44Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath, 45Jehud, Bene-berak, Gath-rimmon, 46Me-jarkon, Rakkon, and the territory across from Joppa. 47But the tribe of Dan had trouble taking possession of their land, so they attacked the town of Laish. They captured it, slaughtered its people, and settled there. They renamed the town Dan after their ancestor. 48The homeland allocated to the clans of the tribe of Dan included these towns and their surrounding villages. —Joshua 19:40-48 Daily insight: Dan’s allotment was a small territory compressed between the northwestern hills of Judah and the Mediterranean Sea—a portion that proved too small for Dan’s numerous families (19:40-48). The majority of the tribe migrated farther north and settled in Laish, where they began to drift into idolatry (Judges 18). Deviating from God’s plan led to negative consequences.
