Daily discussions with everyday Muslims, leads me to conclude that it seems a lot of Muslims are caught up in deep and sophisticated denial about the obvious confusing, the downright illogical and the false teachings in the Hadith literatures. They reconcile this turmoil within themselves by virtue of psychological assurances that these confusions are their own shortcomings, and of-course the learned Ulama are immune from them; but what they are not aware of and is hidden from them, is that these so-called Ulama are themselves in the same intellectual turmoil. Moreover, when such people are presented with evidence that works against their long held beliefs, they reject adamantly, because it creates extreme discomfort; known in psychology as cognitive dissonance. Hence they prefer to defend and champion these beliefs by pseudo rationalisation, by evading any confrontation of these issues, and even by denying any grade of evidence that doesnt fit their core beliefs. Such individuals will often use their main pseudo rationalisation in their defence, when confronted with logical breakdown of their long held irrational beliefs, which is - satan is intelligently and convincingly deceiving! The collective result of such a society is that falsehoods are accepted and transmitted generation to generation in oblivion.
