Daily manna TOPIC: Envy Forbidden! Thursday, January 22, 2015 TEXT: JOHN 1:29-34 Key Verse: “This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me” (John 1:30). A flourishes and attracts the vibrant Christian fellowship presence of God where there is no envy and acrimony, where everyone accepts his or her call to serve others and where the pursuit of God’s glory is the cardinal objective. In today’s text, John the Baptist did not harbour envy for Jesus Christ. He told everybody that he was not the Christ but His forerunner. And when he saw Jesus coming to him, he lavished Him with sincere compliments, praise and good introduction: “Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world…”. The church will be a better place if brethren realise the need to work in harmony, recognising the gifts of others and giving those who are appointed to lead the chance and cooperation to do so without antagonism and envy. The Lord will also work among His people in greater measure if and when the spirit of unity is given a free reign in our midst. It requires everybody’s effort to promote a blemish-free fellowship in the household of faith. The spirit of the world must not be imported into the church. It is in the world that people kill and malign one another because of power. That should not be the lifestyle of those who are called by the name of the Lord. Parochial dictates such as envy and jealousy are off-limits for true Christian assemblies. Holiness and righteousness with sincerity of purpose must be the bedrock of all Christian gatherings. God commands His blessings upon rancour-free congregations only. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 18 - 19 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Envy and jealousy spoil Christian fellowship Higher Everyday for Thursday, January 22, 2015 TITLE : A BURDENED YOUTH. TEXT:“Their heart cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: give thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease.” (Lamentations 2:18) In 1905, Dr J. Edwin Orr, a historian of religious revivals, cited the conversion of an estimated 59,950 of Atlanta City’s population of 60,000; the closing of 200 stores in Portland, Oregon, so that employees could attend noon-day meetings, and a wave of 20,000 young people volunteering to be missionaries. The greatest impact, Dr Orr said, was in Wales, where churches were jammed every night and where crimes were almost non-existent for 18 months. About an Indonesian Revival, Dr Orr revealed that courts were closed down and the police had nothing to do for lack of criminals. There were instances where almost the entire inhabitants of a city were converted and a census could have well been made by counting the number of people in the church on a Sunday as there would be little error. No revival occurs in secret. When it occurs in any nation, such a nation would know. Where are your lost tears over the lost millions of youths at your doorsteps? You are saved to have compassion on them. Challenge: Join the faithful ‘praying ministry’ to stand in the gap. Prayer:Father, my heart’s desire and prayer are that all be saved.
