#DailyWord - May 10th- (Matthew 10:37-39) Jesus said He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it. ------------------ When Jesus made this statement, it rattled more than just the average disciple. Here, Jesus was talking about not just what we do or how much we do. He was addressing a heart issue and used that as his grading scale of discipleship. I know how much I love my family and would do pretty much anything for them (and I still would). Knowing that, Jesus draws on that connection of an I would do anything attitude that has nothing to do with the toughness of the circumstance facing the person, but rather the depth of love for the person. In that context, he effectively is saying are you prepared to love me more than that?. If it came time to choose between the people you would do anything for and Jesus, who would you pick? Serving and sacrificing stuff that really costs us is what it takes to be a disciple of Christ, not just good Bible notes and Sunday teaching. It goes past what I can afford to do, and where I am comfortable serving. He has placed each one of us in a church to be equipped for His service. Make no mistake, service is involved. Jesus wants to dial it back to where the attention is on do you love me? and not on will you do this for me?. I want God to work more of this disciple heart into me. I hope you do too.
