Daisy in Her New Home- Two Mornings Ago... Watching ANOTHER Rescued (foster) Dog Give Birth... **************** **************** Recently Posted Daisy: My Ups and Downs Are Over A few weeks ago, we were made aware of a sweet little Bulldog girl at Alamogordo Animal Control. Shed been picked up as a stray, and when her family was contacted, they said they didnt want her, didnt want to pay the fee. Daisy, strangely, was microchipped with another owner contact, and we contacted them. Hes in prison and no telling when hes getting out, what do you care? the wife replied. I explained that we were making sure that she hadnt been lost and then ended up erroneously in the second home, where she wasnt considered worth the impound fee to get her back. Couldnt care less, not about him, not about his dog, do what you want, she said and hung up. Daisy was skin and bones, terrified, had obviously had more than one litter of puppies, and it was several days before she would even look at us without us actually going in her kennel. She got in my lap the first night but just shook for hours, and finally fell asleep almost at dawn, the third time I went in after night rounds. Within about two weeks, Daisy was still skinny, but coming up to us and wagging her tail, enjoying the touch of humans now without flinching. This month, she was blessed to have a volunteer bring her to our training classes. The first time, she made it through only half the class, too nervous around dozens of people and dogs to stay without shaking. Trainer Kay McClune thought it best for her to go relax in her kennel. Last week, Daisy made it through the whole class...we were so happy that shed made so much progress from the week before! Last weekend, our puppies, Freyas Family, came back from foster care with one of the most loving families Ive ever met, the Souverbielle family. The Souverbielles have fostered Isis babies, Lailas babies, Freyas babies, and the amazing Kingston, also from Alamogordo Animal Control. Candice wanted to see Daisy that day. Shed met Daisy before, and always asked about her. Mikey, can we foster Daisy, please? she asked her husband. Id never heard Candace talk like that before, but I didnt dare hope. A few days later, the Souverbielles came to pick Daisy up to foster her. I still had this glimmer, but I still didnt dare to hope. Candace texts me the cutest pictures of Daisy, and the sweetest updates of how she loved the kids, the dogs, and the cats. She was playing and potty trained and wonderful. Yesterday, Candace came to Animal Village NM. And I heard my dream for Daisy come true. We want to adopt Daisy, she said. And tomorrow, Daisy will graduate from K9 class, with her new family- the Souverbielles, who love her, and will never let her be hurt or scared again. And a little of my faith has been restored~ Sunny, AVNM
