Leh | Monday, August 13, 2012 The 20th Century was a century of violence, bloodsheds and disturbance thus taking a lesson from the past mistakes and negligence, we should try our best to make the 21st century an era of peace and tranquility respecting each other’s faith and belief. This was stated by the Dalai Lama during an interaction session with the youth of Ladakh organized by the Ladakh Buddhist Association, Youth Wing under the banner “ Interaction with the Youth of Himalayan Ladakh Co-existing religious communities on ‘INTER FAITH’ -Words of wisdom by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.” His Holiness said that the past is not reversible but we should analyze what was wrong in the past that has brought us sufferings. Survival and peace of each individual entirely rest on others, therefore, we should look forward to a holistic and a peaceful future taking utmost responsibility, the Dalai Lama said. Intelligence alone cannot bring peace but it should be combined with positive emotions that yield ultimate source of peace that’s love, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness and contentment for which each and every individual has to make effort at their own, the Dalai Lama urged. Replying to the questions raised by different youths, His Holiness said that India is a living example where people of all faith live together harmoniously that is very important to lead a peaceful and a meaningful life keeping the age old traditions alive. Here in Ladakh also, the Buddhists and the Muslims live together maintaining the old traditions intact respecting each other’s faith, the Dalai Lama said and adding that it should be carry forward and in this direction, a great responsibility lies on the youth of Ladakh irrespective of religious affiliation. Responding to a question of increasing trend of suicidal cases among youth, the Dalai Lama replied that existing modern education system is something thatn lacks holistic, inner and mental values that’s the causes of raising suicidal cases. According to Buddhism, His Holiness said that suicide is an act of killing; a great sin. Too much emotions and lack of holistic values sometimes provokes such extreme step, therefore, quality education with analytical mind and understanding the meaning of human life could definitely minimize the suicidal rate in the whole world, the Dalai Lama added. His Holiness strongly urged upon the youth of Ladakh to become fully and qualitatively educated with the values of their religions and give up attachment, anger and hatred saying that these negative forces are the root cause of bringing disturbance in life. The Dalai Lama regarding the need of quality religious education among the people said that the Monasteries of Ladakh should be the learning centres rather than the worshipping Centres saying that reciting of Mantras and keeping blind faith on the rituals without knowing the real meaning of Buddha-Dharma is of no use. Concluding his words of wisdom, the Dalai Lama said that when a crisis is likely to occur in a society, the people of the co-existing religions mush sit together, share their views, exchange dialogue very calmly and serenely that will surely help to keep the crisis away from the society and maintain peace. Earlier, the President, LBA (YOUTH) Rinchen Namgyal welcoming His Holiness the Dalai Lama extended great gratitude for blessing the audience with His invaluable words.
