Dalkey Harbour, Some of my memories, the smell of the nets and lobster pots,the old fishermen mending their nets.My DA taking to the harbour ,him been one of the rowers in the ( Malakey) spelling ? in the local regatta. My DA bringing home fish and crabs and tales of landing giant conger eels. Fishing with cat gut and a bent safety pin and pulling up crabs, the smell of sea weed.The Boat men taking people to the island for a day out and the same men on other occasions pulling into the harbour with their boats full of mackerel. The boats painted bright colours on the slip and moored in the harbour,as we got older swimming around the boats and clinging onto the thick ropes that held the boats. Jumping of the the wall, which at the time looked like a mile high.I love this place,over the years i have traveled and i can honestly say there is no place on earth i would rather be. I paid a visit to this beautiful spot in July 2014 and found it was different to my boyhood,no old men, no nets and lobster pots so sterile, but still the most beautiful place in the world.
