Dan In Real Life (2007) - Dan, a widower, raises his three daughters and writes an on-line column that offers advice regarding relationships of all types. For a long weekend, Dan takes his children to the extended family gathering at his parents place. As chance would have it, he meets the perfect woman at a book store. However, as Dan learns to his great dismay, she is already taken. Steve Carell is perfectly cast as the sensitive, appealing Dan. He is well supported by a large cast, including three strong performances by the actresses playing his daughters. This is a sentimental comedy that evokes poignant emotional responses in the viewer. The story is generational at times, particularly in the disconnect between Dan and his two older daughters, but it always returns to the bond of love between family members and the magic in a new romance. I highly recommend this film.
