Dan John calls them punch the clock workouts. You know what to - TopicsExpress

Dan John calls them punch the clock workouts. You know what to do, you show up, and you do it. No drama. Todays PCW involved front squats. By the end of the fourth set, the weight felt heavy and the mood was all business. Joyless, punch-the-clock and complete-the-reps business. And then suddenly, a reminder. Meditation, may be the best word. The purpose here is not to DO front squats, kid. The whole point of this is to make your entire body stronger, with every pull down and every drive back up. ...How do you suppose the squats felt from that point, with that mindset? Listen, we all get stuck counting sets and reps, punching that clock and gutting through a workout, the way we often ought to. But try not to forget the point of it all, while carrying those last few yards or locking out those final reps. That consciousness of purpose, difficult as it may be to maintain through all your weekly hours of training, will improve the experience AS WELL AS the result. Get stronger — and have a GREAT weakend. —Nikki, StrongFirst VPO
