Dance with a difference By: BB Nayak A local NGO -- Guju Charitable Trust and Dharmesh Dance Troupe (DDT) located in Mulund recently organised a cultural programme for underprivileged section of the soiety called, ‘Everybody Can Dance’ at Kalidas auditorium. The event was held to fulfill the aspiration of these people to perform on stage. Renowned RJ Anurag Pandey graced the occasion and entertained the audience. Over 400 participants aged from 3 to 56 jumped on the dance floor to showcase their dancing prowess on various forms. They staged varied styles like Hip-hop, Ballet, Tap dance, B-boying, Salsa, contemporary, Jazz, Folk, Belly dancing, Bollywood, Freestyle and many more much to the delight of the cheering crowd. As many as 28 groups performed, portraying various forms of dance. One of the sequences sent out a noble message of ‘Save girl child’. The show organiser Dharmesh Shah had a tough time in creating innovative sequences to rock the stage with both professional and amateur dancers taking on the floor. He put in a lot of effort to make the show a success, while providing a launch pad to a group of enthusiastic women having inclination towards dance in the age section of 40-56. This group remained the winner on their own terms with their scintillating show, who got standing ovation. However, one person that stole the show was Fernando, world’s number one dance choreographer who choreographed the hit movie ABCD-Any Body Can Dance. He shook a leg or two to public demand that captivated all. Besides, Rahul Shetty, choreographer of celebrity television show Nach Baliye and actor in ABCD, Dharmesh Mehta, director of well-known serial Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chasma and added a spark to the show and encouraged the participants. “Fernando has tied up with us for the first ever Ballet studio in Mulund that brought him to this suburb for regale the audience. Dharmesh made the show even special by making an announcement of collaboration with Dharmesh Dance Troupe to open an acting institute in Mulund and giving chance to the students in his projects,” said Dharmesh Shah. A special guest performance was presented by the Fictitious Group, the winner of India’s Got Talent show to encourage the audiences.
