Dancing around cave or mud hut camp fires, under the spell of - TopicsExpress

Dancing around cave or mud hut camp fires, under the spell of shamans or substances, later became elaborate churches, all wrapped up in primordial genetic recollections of fears and insecurity, in which we still dwell. I have no grudge with religion, I have no cross to bear against faith. I just want each of us to enjoy whatever reality or fantasy you want to believe, but do not push it into my life through government agencies.. I do have a grudge against theocratic nuts and extremist on religious quest that have nothing to do with religion, and are more about controls. Many religions bring people peace, and help sooth and smooth out the reality they face. I have seen drug addicts conformed and drunks made whole again by what they thought was God. Who am I to doubt what they believe... I have never sat myself up as a persecutor of religion, but I am against those that use it in politics, and kill innocent folks in the name of faith. As a historical researcher and writer, I have seen how much damage religion has done over the millenniums and continues today., So as a humanist, one idealistically might wish religion was never born.. But I am also an anthropologist in thinking, and realize we have seen the so called spirits or gods since mankind became aware, and it is deeply ingrained in our psyches. I am for breaking the shackles of dogma and keeping laws and gov secular, but not against a spiritual search.... Yet as a democratic minded humanist, I want each of us free to do what it is you love and believe, as long as it does not infringe on others.. Thats the America, the Founders wanted, religious liberty, and secular state. They were students of the Enlightenment and embraced the rights of man....And had seen the effects of religion in government in Europe and wanted to break the chains of religious bigotry... Now we creep back towards a dogmatic and theocratic oligarchic state as the churches enjoy tax free status and shove that religion power over the secular state.... The dream of the Founders is in jeopardy, if we do not stand up to the religious right wing take over of America..
