Dancing in the Street I had a friend visit my exhibition last year. We had a discussion, which grew from civil to quite robust at times might I add. She has strong opinions on what makes a photo a Street Photo. Nothing wrong with that I guess. Yups, this is Street Photography. Welcome folks. You dont need special skills, you need to be brave thats all, conquer all your fears and get close. Show your courage as some will tell you, and dont worry too much if people get angry. Anyone in public space is fair game. Just move on and dont get involved in an argument. You need to get close. Besides educating me more on the rule of thirds, composition, subject placement, movements, backgrounds, triangles and the lot, she tells me this... -Yes, get in close, really close and please only use short primes, 24mm-50mm, nothing longer. - So you mean I must get physically close? -Yups -I thought you had to get emotionally close,... ...said I, tucking away my 70-300 telephoto back into my bag.
