Daniel G. Acomb, Death, Geneseo NY Livingston Republican, Thursday, August 14, 1913. Acomb - Daniel G. Acomb, sheriff of Livingston county, died at his home in this village last Sunday night at eleven oclock. Sheriff Acomb had been in poor health for some time, but his condition was not regarded as dangerous as he was able to attend to his duties and was frequently seen on the streets. As recently as Thursday he went to Buffalo to consult a specialist about his condition and learned that he was in a serious state with sugar diabetes. From that time until the end he sank rapidly and it was evident during the last of his illness that there was no hope for him. He was forty-four years of age. Mr. Acomb was born at Sandy Hill in Steuben county, near the Livingston county border line. His boyhood was spent in that neighborhood and when he was a young man he went to Dansville to conduct a shoe business. He abandoned this and engaged in the livery business and last spring built a garage in Dansville and has conducted a most successful enterprise. For a number of years he was a constable in Dansville and a most efficient one and later became a deputy sheriff and was one of the countys most valuable officers in that department. Last fall he decided to run for sheriff on the Republican ticket. The presence of the Bull Moose ticket in the field made unusually strenuous campaigning necessary and Mr. Acomb put in a great deal of time traveling among the different towns, and his campaigning told on him for his health was none too good when he was compelled to do the exciting and exacting campaign work. He was elected and assumed office on January 1st. As sheriff he was a conscientious and painstaking official and the county loses a good man. He was a staunch and true Republican and always a hard and willing worker for his party, and his loss is keenly felt among his political friends as well as by a large circle of warm and admiring personal friends. The body was taken to Dansville where the funeral was held yesterday, the Masonic lodge conducting it. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Charles and Theodore and one daughter, Nellie, two brothers, Frank and Fred, and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Matthews and Mrs. Jennie Flint.
