Daniel laments delay in prosecution of Dipo Dina’s killers Monday, 30 June 2014 21:14 Written by Charles Coffie-Gyamfi, Abeokuta Otunba-Gbenga-DanielFORMER governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, Monday lamented the continuous delay in the prosecution of killers of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) guber candidate in the 2007 election, Dipo Dina, stressing that “they (killers) were arrested before we left office”. Daniel, who is a Labour Party (LP) chieftain in the state, queried: “Why are we in a hurry to destroy sports development, which is what the youth in Ogun State want? Why are we in a hurry to quickly name an institution after somebody whose death is questionable? Why are we not in a hurry to prosecute the people who killed Dipo Dina that have already been arrested before I left office? Who is the beneficiary of Dipo Dina’s death? The witch cried yesterday, the child died today”. The former governor, who spoke at the Ijebu Central Federal Constituency meeting of the party held in Odogbolu, in Odogbolu Local Council Area of the state, disclosed that those civil servants that Amosun’s administration sacked, would be recalled if the party is voted in the 2015 election. He assured the people that the LP would unseat the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) in the next general elections in the state, saying that the APC government in the Ogun “Is already jittery of the aftermath of the result of the governorship election in Ekiti State”. His words: “Be patient, it is just only eight months that is remaining. Support them to finish their tenure; after that, we will now discuss the way forward. We will unseat them in the 2015 elections, be patient”. Daniel, who expressed worry about the dwindling standard of sports in the state, said his administration built more stadia in the state for sports development, as well as “A strategy to reduce unemployment among the youth in the state”. He disclosed that in 2006, Ogun was ranked among top 10 states in sports, adding that during the National Sport Festival in Kaduna, the state took second position, “But now, the situation is not the same”. Daniel added that one of the strategies his administration adopted to improve the standard of sports and for the maintenance of the sporting facilities in the state was the naming of Ijebu Stadium after the Chairman of Globacom, Chief Mike Adenuga, but said Ibikunke Amosun, on assumption of office as governor, changed the decision. “Why are we in hurry to destroy sports development in the state”, he queried, stressing that Ogun State is in reverse gear. The former governor urged his party faithful to collect the severance allowance the current administration is paying, noting, “It is what you worked for, it is your sweat; so go and collect your entitlements”. Daniel disclosed that LP doesn’t have any presidential candidate, hence the party faithful should vote for Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election. One of the gubernatorial aspirants of the LP, Mr. Nasir Gboyega Isiaka, urged the people to remain united, urging them to support the party. He stressed that the party is for everyone. At the ceremony, some of APC members from Okun Owa Ward III defected to the LP.
