Danny Prather and Dave Scott take 1st overall Pro Quad at the 2013 Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno held August 16th-17th. Screen Shot 2013-08-27 at 3.59.40 PM5 pro quads joined the 300 plus motorcycles, cars, trucks and UTV’s to make the 545 mile journey to Reno. First in points for the series championship going into Vegas to Reno, the team’s game plan was to be smooth and consistent, minimize mistakes, and make it to the finish line. Starting the race 1st off the line, Danny had a quick 30 mile ride to the first pit. Danny managed to pick through the dust and get by a hand full of motorcycles before handing the bike off to Dave at pit #1. The pro team of Cody Mitchell/Kyle Grosse was close, and chose to skip the first pit, which allowed them to get by Dave just as he was leaving the pits. Dave rode hard to make up some ground, but the dust was too heavy to make the pass. Over the next 100 miles, Dave closed the gap and finally made the pass for the lead when Kyle Grosse missed a turn and crashed before pit#5. Luckily Kyle was able to get back on his bike with a broken arm to ride it in. Dave brought the bike into pit#5 with the physical lead and just as Danny was ready to leave, pit crew member Steve Fenton, discovered a broken radiator hose clamp. The rest of the crew went over the entire ATV to make sure it was good. A new K&N Air Filter and Danny was clear for takeoff. Shortly after leaving the pit Danny clipped a rock and was feeling vibrations from the right rear tire. Deciding to slow down and take a look, he noticed the tire was hanging ½ way off the wheel. Screen Shot 2013-08-27 at 3.59.13 PMLuckily the team runs tire blocks and Danny was able to maintain pace, and actually gain time on the second place Q11 team. Danny made it to pit #6 where the team again had a great pit stop, and put on a set of fresh Maxxis tires on the rear. The team gave up some time in the pits, but still managed to pull away from 2nd place with a 6 minute lead. Switching off riding duties over the next 100 miles before pit#10, Danny and Dave were able to stretch the lead up to 10 minutes. The pit stops from pit#10 to #14 where all remote pits, and the chase trucks were scrambling to make each pit in time so the team decided to take their time at pit#10, and make sure the quad was ready for the next 200 miles. The CT Racing pit crew checked everything, tightened the skid plate, put on a fresh air filter and checked all of the fluids. Everything checked out and Danny was back on the course for his final ride of 115 miles to pit#13. At this point the team knew they had to keep it together. With a solid 11 minute lead over the Q11 team of Romas / Kendall, CT Racing pit crew captain and engine builder Allen Knowles got on the radio, and reminded Danny to ride smart and not push it. Danny made it through the next pit clean and was now heading towards the most remote pit, pit#12 Rawhide. With fellow District 38 racers Steve and Kyle Penner on hand at Rawhide, Danny was able to gas and go quickly. Leaving Rawhide, Danny encountered some of most nasty, cross grain, g-out and whoop infested rock gardens in the Nevada desert. Their new Roll design arms and Elka stage 5 shocks were working better than ever before, allowing Danny to pull away from the pack. Danny handed the bike off to Dave at pit#13 with a 12 minute lead. With the finish only 70 miles away and the win in sight, Dave rode cautious to keep the bike together and made it to the finish line. Danny Prather and David Scott finished with an elapsed time of 10:53:46 aboard their CT Racing Honda TRX450R. The Q11 team rode their Honda 700x to a second place finish (11:05:33), while the Q83 team of Cody Mitchell and Kyle Grosse finished third (11:24:40) in the pro quad division. “Our team had an awesome day. Once we got back out front we never looked back and it feels great to be able to pull off another win for our team. The bike handled the best it ever has and ran flawless all the way into the finish”, said Dave Scott at the finish Screen Shot 2013-08-27 at 3.59.01 PM“We had a great race!
