Dare 2B Daring – January 17, 2014 A daily devotional published by Risk Takers for Christ, Inc. (Permission granted to reprint with proper attribution.) “God’s work was never meant to be stationary, but always advancing.” – Hudson Taylor Jesus Christ walked this earth for a mere 33 years, and his ministry comprised just the last three. However, in those three short years He achieved more than anyone else that ever lived. He lived a sinless life. He taught, preached and traveled incessantly to do so. And at the end of his life, when He had accomplished all that the Father had given Him to do, He allowed the very people whom He had created to nail Him to a cross and put Him to death. Throughout his three-year ministry, Jesus Christ was always advancing. Advancing towards Jerusalem. Advancing towards the cross. The few times He “withdrew”, it was to pray and fortify Himself for yet another advance. In Matthew 16:8, Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” Their answers come in rapid succession. “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Probing deeper, Jesus asks, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter, the headstrong one, the outspoken one, can’t wait to answer Jesus. “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God,” he shouts. Jesus commends Peter and declares that not only will He build His church on that truth, but also the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Did you catch that? The very gates of hell will not be able to withstand the truth that Jesus is the Messiah. Onward Christian soldiers! Forward march! “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NKJV) - Rev. Dale M. Glading, President
