Dark Chocolate May Protect Against Colon Cancer: This new study - TopicsExpress

Dark Chocolate May Protect Against Colon Cancer: This new study showed that rats fed a diet including dark chocolate or bloomed dark chocolate showed significantly less aberrant crypt focci (pre-cancerous lesions of the colon) compared to non-chocolate fed mice. Furthermore, chocolate-fed rats showed a reduced proliferation index and reduced levels of COX-2 and RelA. Chocolate has among the highest levels of phenolic compounds of any commonly eating food and has already shown activity against breast and liver cancers in previous studies. Note: Bloomed chocolate has a white waxy coating usually due to age or sitting too long at warmer temperatures. Apparently bloomed chocolate does not lose its antioxidant power. tandfonline/doi/full/10.1080/01635581.2013.789542#.Uevm8C9waUk
