Darren Schlechter shared this from Bret Contreras the other day. As I contemplated squats tonight and realized my wrecked shoulders would be in even worse shape, it came back to me. So I went and creeped his wall to re-share it. For all of you younger lifters, this is more important than your set/reps scheme, what bench shirt/squat suit to buy, if youre gonna do steady state or HIIT, etc. Take care of your body. That 15 minutes of mobility and foam roller work, or whatever you do for your actual health before you train is what will make you better able to enjoy real life, not gym life, in the years to come. A 1000 lb Bench Press will never offset the inability to play with your kids, or grand kids. Training is what we do to enhance our lives, not rule it. This is a lesson that age and children have taught me. Im not burdened by regret though. It isnt too late to make yourself functional and in less/no pain. Dont wait. Heal yourself so you can enjoy your time in the gym life more, but more importantly, enjoy your LIFE more!
