Date.26th January, 2015 Shri P.K. Srivastava, General Manager, SCR Inaugurated Renovated ‘Rail Kalarang’ – Multipurpose Function Hall Shri P.K. Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway inaugurated a modern totally renovated ‘Rail Kalarang’ auditorium – multi functional hall at Bhoiguda, Secunderabad, today i.e. 26th January, 2015. Shri S.K. Agarwal, Additional General Manager, SCR, Shri M. Raghavaiah, General Secretary, National Federation of Indian Railwaymen & SCR Employees Sangh, Shri Ch. Shankar Rao, General Secretary, SCR Mazdoor Union were present. Addressing the packed gathering of Railway personnel and their family members, Shri P.K. Srivastava stated that the Rail Kalarang will serve the needs of the railway fraternity as also act as the right avenue to host various gatherings including cultural and social. The facilities including Air Conditioning, Acoustics, Lighting etc. match the best in the city, making every railway personnel proud of Rail Kalarang. He expressed confidence that this landmark, coming as a gift on Republic Day will meet very encouraging patronage of everyone. Shri Rakesh Aron, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division in his welcome address briefed on the salient features of Rail Kalarang. He stated that the multi-purpose hall, imbibed with a host of facilities in tune with the present day requirements is an offshoot of the Railway Administrations priorities towards the welfare needs of the railway personnel. The funds for the multi-purpose function hall included allocation from the Staff Benefit Fund, he added. A host of cultural programmes were conducted on the occasion. A Brief on Rail Kalarang Rail Kalarang function hall has a long history. It is about 60 years old. It has witnessed many great events and performances, on cultural front, besides serving as a function hall for social events like marriages etc., for Railwaymen and their family members. Initially it merely had a stage and an open auditorium. Subsequently, it was renovated by providing a covered shed, which was inaugurated by Shri N. Krithivasan, the then General Manger, South Central Railway, in the august presence of the doyen of Telugu cinema Late Shri Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Padma Bhushan & Dadasaheb Palke award winner. Initially it was maintained by Hyderabad Division of S.C. Railway. Later it was handed over to Lalitha Kala Samithi, the cultural wing of S.C.Rly. Rail Kalarang has been upgraded from time to time to cater to the requirements of staff. It was again remodeled during the year 2005 and was inaugurated by Shri T. Stanley Babu, the then General Manager. Rail Kalarang has been now renovated and upgraded from being an open auditorium to a Centralised Indoor AC multi-purpose function hall with state-of-the-art facilities. The auditorium is built with a seating capacity for 900 people. Also added now is a VIP lounge-cum-mini function hall which can house 100 people and is suitable for small functions. It is primarily built to cater to the needs of railway staff and their families, to enable them to perform marriages and other social functions at a reasonable rate. The facility will also be offered for outsiders whenever there is no demand from Railway staff.
