Date: 27th March 2013, Resend in July 2013 To: MTR - Ms. Annie Leung Fax No. 2993 XXXX Tel 2993 XXXX Fr: Mrs. Wong Re: Concern of misleading news of the paper being distributed thro MTR end up affecting life journeys of many people… 車長開車唔小心撞途人会有後果, 新聞從业員故意寫錯誤資料對社会会有不良及深遠後果 On 21st of March 2013 page 14 of Metro Daily the headline was “ATV重播 63%不滿”. The sub heading was “八成人支恃發新牌”. The survey was commissioned by CDI…. Obviously this news was biased and I have a feeling that the journalist deliberately released this piece of information for some purpose… FYI, there are at least two surveys available.. TVB used a sample size of 1,017. One of the key findings is 65.6%認為政府應該以申請机構現有節目貨素作標準 CDI used a sample size of 525. Metro has chosen to use CDI findings. In addition, Metro used the data of “八成人支恃發新牌” from CDI which could be further explained as 49% 非常支恃 36% 几支恃 7% 一半半 2% 几反對 1% 非常反對 5% 唔知 Why did the journalist choose CDI’s survey but not TVB’s survey? Why did the journalist combined 49% 非常支恃 with 36% 几支恃? CDI distributed a questionnaire about TV last Saturday 23/3/13. We found the questionnaire design was very highly misleading. I also faxed to you. It is hoped that MTR would closely monitor the quality of the free daily that you are distributing throughout all MTR stations... More and more people are showing concerns about the code of conduct of journalists these days..... Mrs. Wong Media Ethics Concern Group Hong Kong
