The lighthouse is located on Lake Dora at the entrance of the Port of Mount Dora in Mount Dora, Florida. Built in 1988, only 35 ft. tall, the lighthouse is a fully functional navigating light for the Port of Mount Dora, on Lake Dora. It is the only inland freshwater lighthouse in Florida. Mount Doras 1st settlers were the Simpson Family in 1874. The Postmaster gave the settlement a name in 1880 by combining parts of his own childrens names. In 1883 it was renamed Mount Dora, as it is located on a plateau 184 feet above sea level and borders Lake Dora. N4N will operate from 1500 UTC February 15, 2014 to 0200 UTC February 16, 2014 (10:00 am to 9:00 pm local time on Saturday February 15, 2014. Modes will be CW, SSB and PSK-31. BITS & PIECES - DXPEDITION ISLA SAN LORENZO IN PERU IOTA SA - A joint expedition, composed of members of the Radio Club Peruano and the Radio Club Grupo DX Bahia Blanca of Argentina, will be on the air from Isla San Lorenzo (IOTA SA-052, WLOTA 0131), located in the Pacific Ocean (12?0523S-77?1326W) between Thursday 20 and Monday 24, February with the special prefix OC0I. The operation also form part of South America Lighthouse Weekend, with activation of the Faro Gran Almirante Grau (ARLHS PER-006, WLOTA 0131) installed in said island. With the team leader Pablo Vazquez OA4AI, accompanied by Cesar Brousek OA4CLU, Tony Vieira OA4DX, David Torres OA4YX, Carlos Almiron LU7DSY, Carlos Soulier LU4ETN, Daniel Lucca LU1HLH, Gustavo Taboada LU7HW and Eduardo Maleh LU7HEO. NAQCC Special Event from the Museum of Radio and Technology - The West Virginia Chapter of the NAQCC will be using the N3AQC club call sign and operating from the Museum of Radio and Technology in Huntington WV, on Saturday, the 8th of February, 2014. Our operating hours will be from 10 am till 2 pm, near the standard QRP operating frequencies (plus or minus) between 40 and 10 meters. A good way to track us will be the Internet link NAQCC members on the air and the spotting site: QRP Spots. (links from my blog) We will be using the Radio and Technology Museums 9 element beam antenna with my Icom 703 @ 5 watts of power with my personal key. We will try to work stations in a 360 degree pattern with the revolving beam antenna. The Huntington Museum of Radio and Technology is one of the best radio museums in the country and the meeting place of the Tri-State Amateur Radio Association. (TARA). The club will be holding VE exams that morning, and we expect good attendance from the group. This is a great opportunity to showcase our NAQCC Club and the CW mode of communications. Listen for our signal. We anticipate good coverage with the 9 element beam.
