Date of the Manitoba Metis Federation Inc. 2014 Provincial Election Manitoba Metis Federation Inc. Office of the Chief Electoral Officer NOTICE OF MMF 2014 PROVINCIAL ELECTION As the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) appointed by the Board of Directors of the MMF Inc., I hereby announce the calling of the Manitoba Metis Federation provincial election to be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014. Polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Elector Eligibility Any individual member of the Federation, 18 years of age or older, whose name appears on the Preliminary List of Electors on file at the MMF Head Office or who has made an application for membership in the MMF prior to Saturday, May 3, 2014 (date of call of election) and whose application is processed and approved by the MMF Central Registry Office prior to Thursday, June 26, 2014 (date of election) may vote in the MMF 2014 Election. A member may only vote in the Region where the Local that s/he is a member of is located. Advance Polls At least one Advance Poll will be held in each of the seven (7) Regions for those who wish to vote prior to Election Day. Electors who choose to vote at an Advance Poll must vote in person at the Advance Poll established in the Region where they are entitled to vote. ADVANCE POLLS Monday, June 16, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June, 17, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Call for Nominations Nominations are now open for the positions of President of the Federation and Vice-President and two Board Members for each of the seven (7) Regions. To stand for election, a member must submit a Nomination Form, signed by at least twenty (20) members whose names appear on an official List of Electors within the Region the candidate is running, and the candidate must sign, accepting the nomination. The completed Nomination Form must be sent to and received by the CEO, by post marked mail or by fax, by 5:00 p.m. on or before Saturday, May 17, 2014. A member may not be nominated for more than one position. Within seven (7) days from the close of nominations, any elector may submit a written challenge with necessary documents or other material that support the challenge to the right of a candidate to run for the office to which s/he has been nominated. List of Electors As per the MMF Inc. Election By-Law, the Preliminary List of Electors shall be distributed by the MMF Head Office within three (3) days of the CEO announcing the date of election. Each Region shall post the Preliminary List of Electors at their Regional Office and shall, within two (2) days of receipt, send out a copy to each Local within their Region. Individual members shall have up to and including Saturday, May 24, 2014 to apply to add, correct or delete their name from the Final List of Electors by informing their Local Executive, Regional Office or the Chief Electoral Officer of their request. Challenges to Candidates An elector may challenge a candidate for President, Regional Vice President or Regional Director in the Region where the challenger is entitled to vote. Challenges to candidates must be in writing and sent to the Chief Electoral Officer at the address noted below. Written challenges will be accepted up to and including Saturday, May 24, 2014 by 5:00 p.m. Evidence to support a challenge must be provided. The acceptance or rejection of each challenge will be completed within seven (7) days of receiving the challenge. When challenges to candidates have been decided, the Final List of Candidates will be circulated.
