Dateline: Lexington, Ky. The Hon. James Domengeaux was very persistent and demanding when it came to teaching French in our schools. He believed Cajun French could not and should not be the driving force in preserving our language. There are too many idiomatic expressions, slangs, dialects to be gathered all together to be taught. His belief was to teach Parisian, Canadian French, then let the students go out into their communities and absorb the local flavor of the language. Besides, I had Frère Bernard at Cathedral High in French class to remind us with a hunk of chalk, or an eraser that the word was OUI, not WAY!
