Datsun Fairlady - Sports 2000, SR311 - SRL311, 1967-70 On March 15, 1967, Datsun introduced the Datsun Sports 2000, more commonly referred to as the Datsun 2000. This 2 liter roadster came from a line of Datsun Sports, the first of which was built in 1958, S211 Datsun Sports 1000. The Datsun Sports 1600 (SP311 - SPL311) was sold along side the 2000. The introduction of the SR311 and SRL311 using a 2.0 L (1,982 cc) U20 engine and offered a five-speed manual transmission, somewhat rare for a production car at the time. The first-year cars are highly sought after as there were fewer than 1,000 produced which are unencumbered with the 1968 model year emissions and safety changes, these cars fitted with the Solex option made a healthy 110kw pushing just 950kg. A well-tuned stock Datsun 2000 was capable of 193 km/h. The Solex upgrade consisted of dual Mikuni/Solex carburetors, a Solex camshaft, and a seven quart finned aluminum oil pan for improved cooling. Interestingly, the first Nissan Silvia shared the SP311s platform, called the CSP311. The Silvia was the first car fitted with Nissans new R engine. 1967 models were equipped with a “flat dash” as seen on previous models, 1968 on saw a more stylised dash. For 1968, the entire line was updated with a new body featuring a taller integrated windscreen with an integrated rear-view mirror, a padded dashboard with non-toggle switches, and lifting door handles. The door handles were recessed due to complaints of pedestrians being injured in low speed accidents by the 1967 door handles. Additional changes included new body panels, floor, and cowl. Also, the fuse box was now placed in the glove box instead of under the bonnet, a padded dashboard and padded centre of the steering wheel were new inside. J.
