Datuk Eric Chong, President of Branding Association of Malaysia thinks that the FREƎ SHOP idea is abstract. “It’s hard to say whether the concept works, perhaps it works in the beginning because it’s quite a fresh idea,” he said. He thinks such a concept might attract those who like free stuff, and it certainly has a market out there. However, he also advises Mun Wai to do a thorough calculation on the capital and costing so his business will generate enough revenue for sustainability. “Besides, he also needs to consider whether such business concept is applicable to Malaysia,” he added. Datin Winnie Loo, the Founder for A Cut Above and Personal Branding Expert from School of Charisma likes the idea as it’s creative and fresh. “Nevertheless, he needs to have a good judge on member fees; if it’s too expensive, people might not buy it, but if he charges too low, he might not have much profit,” she commented. She suggests charging a higher member fee, in return, the members can get one free sample per day, and not limit to only twice a week. “Having said that, location is important too, if it’s not convenient, I don’t think people would go all the way just to get a free sample,” she added. “The name itself is very attractive,” said General Manager of Big Orange, Veronica Tang. “But, my question is where does the revenue come from? Is it from the membership fees or follow up purchases after trying the samples?” she added. She also pointed out that there are many free membership cards with lots of benefits in the market, in order to stand out, the merchant should always think from the consumer’s point of view, making the FREE concept to be embedded deeply in their hearts. “Actually, there are many similar businesses running on free concept in the market, for example I Love Freebies, Malaysia Free Sample Giveaway, Malaysia Freebies, etc.,” commented Ms Kee from Standards Malaysia. “As I know of, they don’t charge any membership fees and without much restrictions,” she added. Hence, she thinks that Mun Wai could look at the above examples as reference to improve his business concept. Emily, an audience thinks that Mun Wai is business minded and his FREƎ SHOP concept is creative. “However, as much as the word FREE sounds extremely attractive, from a consumer’s point of view, it also depends on whether the free samples are suitable for us,” she said. When asked what kind of free products will attract her, she answered with a laugh,“Skin care and cosmetics of course!” A Cut Above的创始人,同时也是School of Charisma讲师的Datin Winnie Loo个人相当喜欢这个新鲜的企业概念。 当被问到哪一类的免费产品会吸引她时,她笑着回答:“当然是护肤品或化妆品咯!” traffic.libsyn/melody/Boss_20140828.mp3
