Dave Blaney, who was at Bridgeport Speedway along with Jason Leffler, says he believes a part failure was to blame for the fatal accident. Dave Blaney witnessed Jason Leffler’s crash as he was waiting for his event that night at the short track. “Talking with the guys in that race and the place on the racetrack where he wrecked, the odds are really good something broke on the race car and got him into the fence” said Dave Blaney. “That’s the part about it that wouldn’t happen 99 percent of the time or even more than that. When it broke, I think it hit the wall at such an extreme angle that it flung the left side of the car around and hit the wall. The driver is way more vulnerable than” said Blaney, talking about the impact Jason Leffler had and how it seemed to be due to a part failure. Tony Stewart, 3-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion and friend of Jason Leffler, also seems to agree with a part failure being the cause of the accident. “It wasn’t the fact it was a sprint car it was just the fact that it was an accident, and something went wrong, and we lost Jason because of it” said Stewart. Although speculation is that a part failed on Jason Leffler’s car the incident is still being investigated by New Jersey State Police.
