Dave Chizzy Chisnalls World Matchplay campaign came to a close last night as he lost 16-12 to World Number One Michael van Gerwen in what turned out to be a spectacular quarter-final match. Chizzy started confidently taking an early 3-0 lead before the Dutchman levelled the game to 3-3. Van Gerwen then moved 5-4 in front only for Chisnall to level again. The two men traded legs in a real see-saw battle, both matched up until the 25 leg when van Gerwen broke away with 129 bullseye finish to move 13-12 up. The Dutchman then hit tops to create some breathing space and took out legs of 14 and 13 darts to complete his victory. Chisnall, who also lost in last years World Matchplay quarter-final delivered an incredible performance, landing a total of ten 180s and finishing with a 99.46 average. I could have been 5-0 up at the start, said Chisnall. But Michaels the world number one and I knew Id have to dig in. He hit a lot of bull finishes and was great on that tonight. I enjoyed it, though, and its more experience for me on the big stage. Its been a good tournament for me and Ive battled hard. Targets Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis continue their assault on the Matchplay title tonight as Lewis faces Gary Anderson and Taylor takes on Wes Newton in the last two quarter-finals.
