Dave P brought up the interesting proposition that Alien intelligence will sort out many of mankinds problems, this leads us nicely to the FERMI PARADOX which basically is the contradiction between mathematical models which show that the Universe should be teeming with intelligent life and the complete and utter silence that has existed for the last 100 years, this could be because 1. The Prime Directive, any alien civilisation will not make First Contact till mankind has reached a set technological point. 2. First Contact has already happened but because of Religious considerations and Panic we are not deemed worthy of the info. 3. All intelligent life going through the same technological advancements as mankind inevitably destroy themselves for various reasons. 4. My own belief that intelligent life is extremely rare if not unique, this ties in with the post underneath, whereby the Universe/God to make sense of itself creates life/us to populate the Universe, if there is no intelligent life would the Universe even exist, and we are just part of the evolutionary cycle of the Universe.
