Daves Offroad Supply - 2014 RCrocs Crawl #3 Recap This past - TopicsExpress

Daves Offroad Supply - 2014 RCrocs Crawl #3 Recap This past weekend, August 30th, was the third and final RCrcos Crawl Event of the 2014 Season. Since the last event the only modification we made was a new set of 37” Maxxis Trepador Competition Compound Tires. We hoped this would give us a little advantage since we run a spring under YJ and most of our competitors are running WErock Pro Mod type buggies. We got to the park on Friday evening prior to the event and looked over the courses, they were very tight and there were a few off camber spots. Event Day…. We started our day out on a very high note, we flopped onto the driver side on our first course but got lucky with where it landed. My spotter (Paul Laubach) and I were able to get it back on all fours without assistance so we were able to continue the course. Once I got strapped back into the Jeep we managed to finish the course with a -13, best possible score on course was a -15 so this was very good considering the flop. With the way this course went we were pumped up to continue our day. Our second course seemed to be the most difficult for competitors during the event, 3 of the 8 competitors timed out prior to finishing this course. We had a very clean run, hitting no cones, using few backups and also completing the bonus gate, giving us a -10. The best possible score on this course was again a -15 so we felt we did pretty well. After a brief lunch break we were off to our third course. Best possible score on this course also was a -15 but the bonus line was very difficult and pushed the rear of vehicles right into one of the cones. Most competitors finished this course but the scores were not great so we went in with a plan to keep our reverses low and to get lined up for the bonus and try to one shot it hoping to skip the rear tires past the cone prior to sliding over. The plan failed and we took the bonus gate cone but still managed to finish this course with the best score of the day at -2. We had a great day and were sitting in first place going into the shootout. This meant we got to go last so we could see how other competitors did on course. The top three were with 6 points of each other so positions could easily change. The 3rd place and 2nd place competitor had perfect runs so the pressure was on us to do the same. We choked, got into the first bonus gate and had the rear of the vehicle positioned wrong, this caused us to slide into two cones and ate up a lot of our time. Once we got through that gate we were now in a rock race to finish in time. We managed to run the remaining course clean and finish with 19 seconds on the clock. With this finish in the shootout we dropped to 3rd place for the day which put us in 2nd place for the 2014 Series. We are already looking forward to next season and have some vehicle modifications planned that should give us an edge on the competition. We would like to thank the following companies for a great 2014 Season: Rausch Creek Off Road Park & Staff, Raceline Wheels, TMR Customs, Artec Industries, Trail Gear, PRP Seats, Currie Enterprises, Yukon Gear & Axle, Maxxis Tires, PSC Steering, Solid Axle, & Tom Woods Driveshafts.
