David Bowie - Low 1977 (9) Ive listened to David Bowie for a long time, starting in the early 80s when I still lived in Europe. I was never a die-hard fan but have had continuous interest and affection towards his music. What is especially surprising all these years later is that I might have not yet started to scratch the surface because his 1977 release Low blew my mind. It is the best Bowie album I have heard yet, although as mentioned I have yet to listen to a good portion of his 1970s work (which most music aficionados refer to as his finest period). The first half of Low is largely made up of catchy and occasionally quirky 3-minute art-pop-rock songs, and then the album makes a sharp shift towards greatly infectious, Eno-inspired, ambient-art-electronica, making it clear how many artists were likely influenced by these Bowie-Eno collaborations in the years to come.
