David Brillhart and I reflect on the movies of 2014 that we saw. Not ranking them in any particular order like a top 10 list or something, rather just talking about the movies we saw, if we like/dislike them, and recommend them or not. Some of the 2014 movies that really resonate with me include: -I, Frankenstein being so bad its good -RoboCop remake able to stand apart from the original in a good way -Lego Movie being fun and self-aware, as well as a catchy theme song that WILL NEVER GO AWAY -Captain America: The Winter Solider bringing Cap to a modern context -The Amazing Spider-Man 2 proving that Sony cant learn from their mistakes and decide to backtread to the ones made in the Raimi movies, leaving future Spidey movies, be it Marvel/Disney and/or Sony, in question. Its not bad, but really disappointing because it was clear a lot was cut out that wouldve made the movie more coherent and sensical, and I heard that the dvd special edition restored those scenes, but Sony needs to let the people making the movie do their job and not go and cherry pick on it -Godzilla (2014) stomps Godzilla 1998 in oblivion, though itd be nice to see more of Godzilla next time around in the sequel -Transformers 4 being a complete borefest no matter how many explosions and not learning from the previous sequels, making Transformers 2 look like The Dark Knight in comparison -X-Men: DOFP showing that Fox, unlike Sony, is able to learn from their mistakes somewhat and start afresh while being able to keep their hold on Marvel stuff for the time being. And Hugh Jackman is Wolverine aka Marvels Batman AGAIN but cmon, hes the definitive X-Men character -Guaridans of the Galaxy is a fun time, an awesome movie, and left me hooked on a feeling and high on believing -Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is too short, but isnt too bad for a Michael Bay-produced movie, so hopefully there wont be any screwups in future movies -Dawn of the Planet of the Apes proving that epicness can come from a movie with a REALLY long title and from some damn dirty apes -Dracula Untold is the start of the new Universal Monsters cinematic universe and good dark fantasy vampire stuff -Interstellar is big epic sci-fi that gives you a headache, but in a good way -The Interview is not worth starting a war -Birdman is my favorite of 2014 movie.
