David Browers son Kenneth sounds off with a masterful op-ed on wilderness, in part attacking Chris Solomons The New York Times piece from the left. I agree that the biggest threat to wilderness is the fracturing of the traditional coalition that fought for the Wilderness Act 50 years ago, but disagree about whos to blame for the rift. The demonization of hunters and hard-bodied hedonists, as some people have started calling climbers and runners, weakens wilderness rather than making it stronger. Also, Solomon wanted to open up the act to make wilderness even more wild, so in the constant game of Whos the Most Passionate Advocate for Wilderness, Im giving the round to Chris by a score of 29-28.
